I went blind after a failed glaucoma surgery and cataract operation. Today I can even read the fine print in the newspapers without any glasses. It's amazing!Read More
My name is Eugene and I have Parkinson’s disease for the past 10 years, when I was 35. I work in a very high stress environment, advertising. The unfortunate thing is that I love my job. I have a wife and three kids and my wife is the pillar of my strength.
I never thought I would be able to come up here and give this testimonial, because of my Parkinsons, I was bedridden a few years back.
My problems started about 10 years ago. It slowly crept in with neck pain, back pain and weakness in my leg. I went to see about 5-6 neurologists. The first one told me not to worry – just do some physiotherapy, take a few weeks of rest and the pain will go away. But it didn’t go away.
After the sixth neurologist, I was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease – the start of Parkinsons.
I take five types of Parkinsons medications which are very strong. I even needed someone to drive me because the drugs gave me a tendency to fall asleep while driving. That was very dangerous. After about two years, I seldom drive.
At first, I really didn’t believe that I had Parkinsons. I think that is a good thing. It’s also about thinking positive. I needed to know more about Parkinsons so I could study and find out how to overcome Parkinson’s Disease. I think that nutrition is very important for us.
Even though you can see my movements and speech is very slow now, it is getting better. I just took my Parkinsons medication.
There was a time that the Parkinsons medicines stopped working. I got desperate. I tried everything – chinese herbs, acupuncture, acupressure, physiotherapy, you name it I tried it. I tried everything and nothing worked.
Datin Seri Maggie and Alvin has been my saviors. We are in the same church. Even though they are Chinese educated and my wife and I are English educated we spoke for about two hours.
At that time, I needed to take my medication every two hours or my limbs would freeze up. And worse still the Parkinsons medications were losing their effect. My wife even had to resign her job to take care of me.
The Parkinsons drugs will stop working
The doctors had told me that I would be taking medication until one day they would not be effective anymore. According to the doctor I could take the medication for about seven years. After that there would be no more medications. I would have to wait for new medications to be developed.
Seven years have passed. I am now in my tenth year. I am still taking the medications for my Parkinson’s disease. What I am taking has helped me to prolong the effectiveness of my medication.
Younger people are starting to get Parkinsons
Parkinson’s Disease has started to affect people at younger and younger ages. It used to be a disease of people in their 60s and 70’s but now people in their 40’s are suffering from it. Nobody really knows how this disease starts.
I want to express my love and gratitude to my wife for being with me throughout this, and to everyone – have an open mind. Check out things that come your way then decide what is best for you. But most importantly have an open mind.
Eugene found out he had Parkinson’s disease when he was 35. It was a big blow to us. It took us some time to accept, but once we did we became happier.
At first, he was taking 2-3 tablets. He is now taking 2 types of Parkinsons medication. He now has to take 9 tablets of one of the medications. Over the last 10 years, the degeneration has progressively continued.
Of course we still only allow him to drive nearby in case he goes long distance and gets caught in a traffic jam then it would be difficult.
For the medications he is taking now, would cost about RM2,000 per month. We are thankful that through the help of many people, he is registered with the General Hospital so he is getting his drugs from there.
He started taking Izumio & Super Lutein in October 2012. At that time his lips was having very bad water retention and were very swollen. We did not know what else to do. He was trying chinese herbs and taking over 20 capsules a day for a year but it didn’t really help.
Thanks to Datin Seri Maggi and Alvin’s explanations, we decided to give it a try. I can say that Eugene’s condition has stabilized. His medicine dosage has not increased since 2012.
We are not saying that Super Lutein can replace the Parkinsons drugs. But what I am hoping and what we are doing is to slow down the degeneration as much as possible because it is a long journey for Parkinson’s patients and he is only in his 40’s.
We truly believe that Izumio and Super Lutein has helped Eugene because his mobility improved. He start to come out more, Now he plays badminton for two hours every Wednesday, he plays soccer, frisbee, ping-pong. Whenever he can move he will go play sports. That is thanks to the mobility he has after taking Izumio & Super Lutein.
